In the early 1990s, just as a group of professors had mobilized to establish a national institute that would serve as a hub for the mathematical talent across Canada, an important question arose.
What would they call it?
Fields Director Deirdre Haskell has been named Managing Editor of the new journal Zeitschrift für Mathematische Logik und Grundlagen der Mathematik (Journal of Mathematical Logic and Foundations of Mathematics). As stated on their website, the journal plans to publish original research papers of high mathematical quality in all areas of mathematical logic, primarily in English.
We are delighted to welcome Remi Yvant Temgoua to Toronto as the 2025 Fields-AIMS-Perimeter Fellow. Dr. Temgoua will arrive in July for his year-long fellowship, where he will continue his research in Partial Differential Equations
It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Professor Siv Sivaloganathan on March 2, 2025 after a brief illness. He was 68 years old.
Congratulations to Andrijana (Andie) Burazin, who is this year’s recipient of the Margaret Sinclair Memorial Award. Dr. Burazin is an Associate Professor, Teaching Stream, in Mathematical and Computational Sciences at the University of Toronto Mississauga campus.
Fields is saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Zoé Chatzidakis, a brilliant mathematician, loyal friend, fierce advocate for her subject and strong supporter of women and young people. She died on the morning of January 22, 2025.
